Remembrance turned annual fundraiser, Possum Day Out is a three-day fishing competition that was initially established as a time for Andrew Peter McCleary’s loved ones to come together and celebrate his wonderful life.

Andrew was also known as Possum by those near and dear to him, thus the name Possum Day Out. Each year, the event is held around Andrew’s birthday, February 22. Over the last nine years, Possum Day Out has grown and it has attracted more sponsors, and this year they were grateful Senator Boats and HB Marine came on board to do just that.

The fundraiser is open for anyone to attend. Most participants camp or rent holiday homes to make the most of the few days celebrating Possum’s life. Despite the Covid restrictions, Possum Day Out had another successful run this year, raising a total of $4893.00 for the Hawke’s Bay branch of Cystic Fibrosis NZ. And as well as the main event, the kid’s sandcastle and fishing competition were as popular as ever.
